JCD Bar Mitzvah twin Jason Lipowicz proved just how creative his family could be when he sent us the bencher from his Bar Mitzvah last month.
With each page designed to lampoon entries from Google (called 'Joogle' in the Bencher), Facebook ('Jacebook') and Wikipedia ('Lipopedia'), it rendered everyone in the office speechless - and that's no mean feat!
The bencher also contained a page devoted to Jason's Bar Mitzvah twin, Sergey Hazyn-Reva. Sergey is from a particularly needy family in Belarus. Sergey, his sister and two brothers live with their parents in a small, wooden shtetl type house that has only two bedrooms. There is no bathroom or running water in the house so the family must use an outside lavatory and fetch water from a pump at the end of their road. A single wood burner in the centre of the house provides heating, which is barely adequate during the bitterly cold Belarusian winters. Jason's generous support will enable Sergey to fulfill his dream of becoming Bar Mitzvah later this year.
"I've really enjoyed having a Bar Mitzvah twin," Jason said, "It's been great swapping letters and photos and really interesting to see how people live in a different country. The scheme from JCD has been a brilliant part of my Bar Mitzvah!" Jason's dad, Simon, tells us that each bencher was personalised for every guest, even featuring his or her photo on the front cover. Also included was page of information about JCD, "I really hope that our connection leads to more people getting involved with the scheme," said Simon, "It's been a real pleasure to be a part of it!"
